The IBEW (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers) represents approximately 750,000 active members and retirees who work in a wide variety of electrical-related fields, including utilities, construction, telecommunications, broadcasting, manufacturing, railroads and government. Founded in 1891, the IBEW has members in both the United States and Canada and stands out among the American unions in the AFL-CIO because it is among the largest and has members in so many skilled occupations. NECA (National Electrical Contractors Association), founded in 1901, is the leading representative of a segment of the construction market comprised of over 70,000 electrical contracting firms. The industry employs over 650,000 electrical workers and produces an annual volume of over $95 billion. It is the voice of the electrical contracting industry, working to promote higher standards, quality workmanship and training for a skilled workforce.
The theme of the IBEW-NECA conference is “Financial Literacy” and its purpose is to provide information and updates for business managers, chapter managers, plan administrators, and fund trustees involved in local Taft-Hartley plans. In addition to the preconference workshops, attendees to the conference will hear from speakers involved in prescription drug coverage, pension issues, health insurance, investment trends, and legal issues.
